National Geographic Your Shot
Venezuelan photograher, Federico Cabello, shot this photo of a shoal of sardines at one of the world’s top diving spots: Thousand Steps Reef in the Caribbean Island of Bonaire.
Up until I saw this photo, I pretty much overlooked the idea of fish swimming in circles…forming a mandala. Since starting this blog site, I’ve become more aware of just how many mandalas there are around us in a variety of forms.
I love all the blues, turquoise, and white of the sardines and water. And because it appears that Federico shot this close to the water’s surface, you can make out the blues and whites of the clouds in the sky as if looking through a piece of textured semi-translucent glass.
Initially I planned to name today’s MotD “School of Fish” mandala however I saw that the photographer used the word “shoal.” Being the inquisitive Scorpio that I am…I went in search of the difference between “shoal” and “school” when it comes to fish swimming. It seems that Federico used the appropriate word.
BTW…What makes fish swim in circles?
Happy Coloring!
