Pacific Northwest basket weaver extraordinaire Peeta Tinay created this gorgeous basket made with round reeds. If I were in the presence of this basket, I would want to touch it, pick it up, and hold it. It feels like an ancestral thing for me.
I love how she incorporated color to form patterns within the weaving of her basket. You just know that her pieces are fine pieces of craftsmanship…that she’s a true artisan…someone who loves what she does and creates.
From her web site she states:
My love of weaving grew from my wicker furniture restoration background which began in 1990 to 2000 in Berkeley California. Instantaneously my passion for craft and design was ignited! …I love the challenge involved in creating large, well balanced, beautiful shapes; functional and artistic. My projects flow from a variety of twining and plaiting techniques.
She’s also a member of the National Basketry Organization.
Her art reminds me that taking my time to really learn my craft…my art, improves my creativity and expands my skill set…both very worthy causes.
