Wow! Just look at this dress. Made from plastic utensils, styrofoam cups and plates. Amy Neiman, of Venice, California, photographed this amazing couple in their super cool costumes as they prepared to be part of the Dia de Los Muertos holiday parade in Oaxaca, Mexico in 2012. Amy spotted them near the Templo de Santo Domingo de Guzmán.
“I was struck by the colors, the creativity, the seriousness of the young people,” Neiman said. I agree…the creativity of her dress blows me away. And look at all those mandalas! How clever to lay out the plastic forks and spoons in mandala-like circles and then using pieces of the styrofoam cups and small plates for the centers. Even the mandala-like umbrella uses styrofoam cups…reminds me of a Mediterranean style tiled roof.
While researching for today’s MotD, I also found another photo of this very same couple from a different angle. Sadly, the source of the photo is unknown. Seeing it from this angle has me more intrigued and in awe of the beautiful creation of this elegant dress.
Yet another superb example of repurposing ordinary items into to extraordinary works of art. What would you do with these very same materials?
