Ever since I first laid eyes on the phantasmagorical mixed media collages of Philomath artist Judith Sanders, I became one of her biggest fans. Wow! At first it may seem like this painting is overloaded with so much to see and yet it just draws us in…making it a delightful experience to just be with it and take it all in.
For today’s MotD, it can be more like a “where’s Waldo” adventure to spot all the mandalas in this lovely painting; however the title of today’s post may give you a hint. Do check around some more though because there are a lot more in there to be found.
I love how she incorporates a variety of media and processes to create her whimsical art: handwritten stories, images, oil pastels, acrylic mediums and a variety of 2 and 3 dimensional objects.
About her art she states:
Along with the narrative, women and animals are the most common subjects in my work. The female figures are symbolized whimsically in interesting and fantastical scenes as protectors, nurturers and instinctual beings accompanied by birds, cats and dogs. The animals act as companions symbolizing spiritual vitality and guidance creatures.
If you ever happen to be in the Willamette Valley Oregon area in late October, she hosts one of the studios for the annual Philomath Open Studios. Seeing her art in person is a must!
Judith’s art reminds us of how our story is made up of layers and layers of experiences…we can always add more layers to improve upon the parts that we would otherwise want to keep hidden.
I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU ABOUT THE MotD 2016…
Answer this 1-question pole about how best to present the Mandala of the Day for 2016. Thanks in advance for your help.
