A mandala from our own solar system…the sun! As captured from the Nasa Solar Dynamics Observatory on 1/19/2015. I love the swirls and flares in this image. It amazes me how all that power and energy continuously maintains it’s circular shape.
This image depicts a moment in time of the sun. Here’s the SDO explanation of this image:
This [image] highlights the outer atmosphere of the Sun – called the corona – as well as hot flare plasma. Hot active regions, solar flares, and coronal mass ejections will appear bright here. The dark areas – called coronal holes – are places where very little radiation is emitted, yet are the main source of solar wind particles.
We here on earth can feel the heat, light and energy from this orb however without special tools or equipment we’d burn our eyes out if we were to look at it directly. The SDO gives us a variety of ways (this is just one) to look at what’s really happening on our sun.
See? Science can be fun and pretty 🙂
Happy Coloring!
