While this stunner of a gemstone may look like a ruby, it’s actually a 121 carat Rubellite Tourmaline (in a setting of gold and LOTS of round diamonds)…the largest known Rubellite in the world today. And it’s for sale. How much? If you have to ask, you can’t afford it. 🙂
About this piece, the House of Louis XV site states:
The gem derives its name from its unique and breathtaking color. It truly glows with a crimson fire. This color is indicative of high quality and rare rubellite tourmalines found in the Siberia region of Russia. Although held privately for an undisclosed period, it is now on display as part of the House of Louis XV famed gem collection.
I searched for more info about the design and/or the designer of this piece but came up short. If anyone happens to know, please feel free to share in the comments. Thanks.
btw…the House of Louis XV is located in Phoenix, Arizona. I bet you thought it was in Paris or London…I know I did.
Happy Coloring!
