Today’s Mandala Message: What change are you resisting?
This week I’m working through Principle #31 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Embrace Change”. I set my intention today to ponder what change(s) I am resisting.
Canfield offers a list of questions to help embrace change. For today’s MotD, these two questions stood out the most (at least to me anyway): “Why am I resisting that change? … What’s the payoff for my keeping things the way they are?”
My answer to the first question would be: because it seems like a lot of work (overwhelming) to make that change. My answer to the second question would be: it feels safer, less work. Both of them involve “fear of rejection” and “fear of being a disappointment”—to others and to myself.
My Spirt Guide Team is suggesting I come up with counter offers to my answers. For the first one: I’m excited to learn and do new things…I set the intention that it all comes easily to me and that the help I need is readily available. For the second one: people are eagerly waiting for what I’m about to offer.
A good mindfulness practice would be to sit with resistance to discover what’s behind it.
So how about you? Why are you resisting what’s wanting to change? What are you afraid of about this change? What’s the payoff for keeping things the way they are?
“Resistance
— Steven Pressfield, “Do the Work”
will tell you anything
to keep you
from doing your work.
It will perjure,
fabricate, falsify;
seduce, bully, cajole.
Resistance is protean.
It will assume any form,
if that’s what it takes
to deceive you.”
Blessings,
