Today’s Mandala Message: Move Beyond Your Limiting Beliefs
This week I’m working through Principle #33 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Transcend Your Limiting Beliefs”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of moving beyond my limiting beliefs. Canfield states: “Many of us have beliefs that limit our success…Moving beyond your limiting beliefs is a critical first step toward becoming successful. You can learn how to identify those beliefs that are limiting you and then replace them with positive ones that support your success.”
From Asana.com “A limiting belief is a state of mind or belief about yourself that restricts you in some way. These beliefs are often false accusations you make about yourself that can cause a number of negative results.” Most limiting beliefs tend to have something to do with not being enough of something: “I’m not ________ enough.” (I’m not young enough, …good enough, …rich enough, …healthy enough, …old enough, …pretty enough, …strong enough, …thin enough, …smart enough, …tall enough, and so on); which leads to the ultimate limiting belief: “I am not enough”.
I’ve known about the idea of limiting beliefs for a while now however I’ve struggled figuring out exactly what they are. To me they’re kind of insidious, meaning they linger just below the surface of my consciousness and unless I monitor my thoughts regularly, they slip in and out before I realize it. While writing this post, it occurs to me that if I just watch for the word “enough”, I’ll probably catch a lot of my limiting beliefs…and then I can do something about them.
A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder your beliefs about yourself.
So how about you? Are you aware of your limiting beliefs? Do you know what they are? How have they affected your life?
