Today’s Mandala Message: We change best by feeling good
This week I’m working through Principle #34 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Develop four new success habits a year”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of changing by feeling good. Even though I’m following Canfield’s book throughout the year, for this week I’m also including insights from B.J. Fogg’s book “Tiny Habits”. With today’s message Fogg shares how we’re more likely to change if it feels good. He states: “In my own research, I found that habits can form very quickly, often in just a few days, as long as people have a strong positive emotion connected to the behavior.”
Essentially he says “Emotions create habits.” That’s why he encourages us to celebrate in some way every time we are do the newly formed habit. It could be something as simple as high-fiving yourself in the mirror, giving yourself a smile, patting yourself on the back, and so on.
A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder incorporating celebration with your new habit.
So how about you? Does it ever occur to you to celebrate yourself when you do a new habit? How would you celebrate? Can you come up with a simple gesture for that?
