Today’s Mandala Message: Keep it Simple, Sweetheart
This week I’m working through Principle #34 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Develop four new success habits a year”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of making my new habits simple. Even though I’m following Canfield’s book throughout the year, for this week I’m also including insights from B.J. Fogg’s book “Tiny Habits”. With today’s message Fogg states: “Keeping changes small and expectations low is how you design around fair-weather friends like motivation and willpower. When something is tiny, it’s easy to do—which means you don’t need to rely on the unreliable nature of motivation.” His behavior design model is quite simple and involves three components: A. B. C.
A. Anchor — pick an already existing habit
B. Behavior — add a tiny new habit to it
C. Celebrate — celebrate immediately after you do the new tiny habit
A new one I started today was (A) as I sit on the side of the bed after waking up, I put my feet on the floor; (B) I say out loud “It’s a great day”; (C) then I smile (I’ll come up with something more celebratory tomorrow).
A good mindfulness practice would be to add a simple new habit onto an already existing one.
So how about you? What positive habits do you already have in place now? What’s a new habit you want to have? Can you add a tiny (simple) version of that new habit onto one of your existing habits?
