Today’s Mandala Message: Celebrate Yourself
This week I’m working through Principle #35 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “99% is a Bitch; 100% is a Breeze”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of celebrating myself as I progress through my goals…why wait until the very end?
From step #8 of Dr. Sally Hilton’s post ‘8 Steps to Commit to Your Goals’: “Give yourself a reward whether it be internal in the form of feeling good about you or buying yourself something nice. If you can build some instant gratification in with your long-term goals then you’re less likely to sabotage yourself and you get to reduce some of that inner conflict that can mess it all up!”
Her idea of rewarding ourselves is also inline with B.J. Fogg’s “Tiny Habits” which inspired some of the MotDs from last week. I don’t usually think of rewarding myself…I just move onto the next thing without giving it a second thought. It occurs to me that a simple, yet appreciated, reward I can give myself is to take a moment to tell myself “good job” (out loud would be even better). To clarify, it’s not so much about judgement, it’s as if I’m saying to myself: “good job for taking time to do ____________, I’m proud of you and your commitment”. And now that I write this, I realized that after I practiced piano this morning, I _did_ say to myself “good job”. So…I’ll have more of that please.
A good mindfulness practice would be to celebrate your acts of commitment along the way of achieving your goal(s).
So what about you? Do you celebrate the progress you make on your goals? Do you reward yourself along the way? Or do you wait until completion…if at all?
