23-205 Learn More #2

Today’s Mandala Message: Be Prepared

This week I’m working through Principles #36 and #37 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Learn More Earn More” and “Stay Motivated with the Masters”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of being prepared for any eventual opportunity.

Canfield shares the story of motivational speaker Les Brown who dreamed of becoming a radio disc jockey. He had no idea how he was going to do it but he trusted that if he was prepared, the opportunity would come. He studied theater, worked on his speaking voice, he sought out mentors. He went from working as a sanitation worker to landing a job as a gofer at a local radio station where he learned everything he could about being a disc jockey. He even set up a cardboard studio at home with a hairbrush microphone so he could practice. Then one day, a deejay had to leave early and Les was able to fill in. He was later promoted to fill-in deejay, and then eventually landed his own radio show. (ps: I’ve been a big fan of his for years)

For me, today’s topic ties in nicely with yesterday’s MotD post. Currently I’m learning French and modern calligraphy, as well as expanding my artistic skills (physical and digital). My goal is to create bigger, better mandalas with more intricate styles and a broader variety of media.

I have another goal where I see myself telling inspiration intuitive stories (on the fly) whereby I help people (one-on-one or via gallery readings) to receive guidance from their team of guides and angels through stories. I know I can do this and I have done it in the past but over the last few years, I’ve cut way back to almost nothing. I realize now that I am not prepared to do this and have yet to do anything _to_ prepare myself should the opportunity arise. Three things I can do right now is to 1) join Toastmasters to improve on my speaking skills, 2) work on connecting with _my_ team of guides and angels more to expand my abilities, and 3) create opportunities to practice doing readings and stories for people.

A good mindfulness practice would be consider how you can prepare yourself for that next opportunity towards your goal(s).

So what about you? Are you prepared for your goal? What are you doing to prepare yourself for an opportunity of achieving your goal? Is there some skill or practice you can develop or expand on now?

“It’s better to be prepared
for an opportunity
and not have one,
than to have an opportunity
and not be prepared.”

— Les Brown
