23-226 Time #2

Today’s Mandala Message: Focus

This week I’m working through Principle #40 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Redefine Time”. I set my intention today to ponder being focused with my time. From TimelyApp.com they state: “At its heart, time management isn’t really about managing time at all – it’s about managing yourself. We all have the same 24 hours each day, but how well we use them is completely down to us. The best time management techniques improve the ways you work, protect you against distraction and lock your concentration.”

From their post “5 Essential Time Management Techniques”, #3 ties in with Today’s MotD: Be focused: manage distractions.Despite our best intentions, we all get distracted. … Given that it takes about 23 minutes to refocus after an interruption, the productive cost of our daily distractions quickly adds up. So you need to effectively manage your distractions in order to protect your flow states and focus.” Put your phone far away and turn off as many additional distractions as possible, such as email notifications and multiple open screens, to focus on the task at hand.

In order for me to focus, I need to work in a place where I can close the door and put up a “do not disturb” sign. I also turn off notifications on my phone and tablet as well stream my “focusing” music into my ears via my air pod pros. Of late I’ve also had to close the curtains in my work room because I’m easily distracted by any and all neighborhood activity. Ever since getting the Covid in 2020, I find I’m more susceptible to distractions.

A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder you’re ideal setup that allows you to be more readily focused.

So how about you? Do you struggle with focusing? What environment allows you to focus? What activity / task are you able to easily focus, despite distractions?

“I don’t focus
on what I’m up against.
I focus on my goals
and I try to ignore the rest.”
