Today’s Mandala Message: One Thing at a Time
This week I’m working through Principle #40 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Redefine Time”. I set my intention today to consider the idea of single-tasking. From an article by Jory MacKay at RescueTime.com entitled “Single-tasking: How to focus on one thing at a time, get more done, and feel less stressed”, he states: “It’s human nature to try and do multiple things at once. And as expectations rise and deadlines get tighter, multitasking seems like our only option. But here’s the problem: Multitasking is a myth. What feels like doing multiple tasks at a time is actually our brain frantically switching back and forth. And each of those switches takes a toll with researchers saying you lose 20% of your overall productivity for each task you try to take on at once!”
I admit I tend to multi-task and most times I realize I’m giving way less than 100% of my focus to each task. I usually end up having to do things over or forgetting something important or forgetting where I was. Like right now I’m doing laundry, I have mandala meditation stones drying, I’m thinking about what I’ll do next for the my oracle decks, and I’m mentally preparing for a reading this afternoon…all while I’m writing this post.
After reviewing Jory’s article, I’m going to take his suggestion to heart and apply this idea of single-tasking so that not only will I get things done faster but better because I gave each task 100% of my focus.
A good mindfulness practice would be to do one thing at a time and do it well.
BTW…about today’s coloring. 1) When I first connected with today’s MotD, in my mind I saw large hearts. Rather than question it, I trusted the guidance and pursued it without being sure how exactly I was going to do it or how it was going to turn out. 2) At least three of four times while painting, I “accidentally” pressed the wrong key / button / option and each time it surprised me with something even better than what I had already done. Higher vibrational energies were definitely at play today. By following their lead without question, I learned that trusting my “visions” (Their guidance) always works out while also learning some new digital painting techniques.
So how about you? Do you tend to multi-task? How efficient is it for you really? Are you willing to try single-tasking?
“Sitting through
— Jory Mackay
the initial discomfort
of single-tasking
unlocks your brain’s potential.
It forces you to dig deeper
and find results, paths, and options
you hadn’t thought of.”
