23-232 Team #1

Today’s Mandala Message: Focus on What’s Important

This week I’m working through Principle #41 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Build a Powerful Support Team and Delegate to Them”. I set my intention today to clarify what activities are best for me to do and what ones best to delegate. Canfield suggests an exercise to help with such a clarification. He calls it his “Total Focus Process” and it’s done in three steps:

  1. List all the activities that currently take up your time
  2. (a) Pick three of them that “you are particularly brilliant at, your special and unique talents”. (b) Pick three of them that generate the most income.
  3. Come up with a plan to delegate the rest of the activities.

Regarding #2 Canfield states: “any activities that you are brilliant at AND that generate the most income for you or your company are the activities where you’ll want to focus the most time and energy”.

Regarding #3 Canfield states: “Delegating takes time, training, and patience, but over time you can keep chipping away at the low-payoff, nonessential tasks on your list until you are doing less and less of those and more and more of what you are really good at. That is how you create a brilliant career.”

Applying this process to my business, “The Mandala Lady” …I do everything. For one-off items like a banner, business cards, and prints of my art I outsource those. On paper my business looks more like a hobby than a business so there’s little funding (at least right now) to play with which keeps me (for right now) from delegating any of my activities.

That being said, this idea popped into my head to play with as an exercise: What if I had a substantial amount of money that would make it feasible for me to delegate my #3 activities? What would that look like? Where would I go? Who would I hire? What would I delegate? That’s what I’m going to play with this week. I’ll keep you posted.

A good mindfulness practice would be to determine where best to focus your time and energy.

So how about you? Are you able to delegate activities that others can easily do for you? What three activities are ones that only you can do? What activities generate the most income for you?

“As all entrepreneurs know,
you live and die
by your ability to prioritize.
You must focus on the most important,
mission-critical tasks
each day and night,
and then share, delegate,
delay, or skip the rest.”
