23-234 Team #3

Today’s Mandala Message: Seek an Advisor

This week I’m working through Principle #41 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Build a Powerful Support Team and Delegate to Them”. I set my intention today to consider what I would want in an advisor. Canfield states: “Our world has become a very complex place. Just filing your tax return, planning for retirement, rewarding your employees—even buying a house—has become more complicated than ever. That’s why every high achiever has a powerful team of personal advisors to turn to for assistance, advice, and support. In fact, this team is so critical, it pays to begin assembling the team early on in your success journey.”

Finding team members has been challenging for me; either I’m not being clear about what I want from my team, I’m too picky, or I need to up my ability to recognize truly supportive team members. Right now I have two friends who I regularly meet with to talk about what we’re each doing with our businesses/careers and to support each other. I’m grateful for them.

At the same time I’m feeling the need to up my game, to go outside of my friendly circle to find a coach/mentor/advisor. I’m currently following a couple of potential candidates via social media. I’m checking out their websites to see if their offerings (coaching, classes, books, and so on) would be a good fit for me.

What I would need is someone who understands the work I do, is doing or has done some form of it themselves, has a sense of humor, will hold me accountable, helps me see beyond my narrow vision and limiting beliefs, and offers guidance/insight into all aspects of the creative and practical sides of my business.

A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder: what qualities would you want in a coach/mentor/advisor?

So how about you? Do you have an advisor/coach/mentor? Are you open to having one? What would they have to offer in order for you to consider using them?

 “A mentor is someone
who sees more talent
and ability within you,
than you see in yourself,
and helps bring it out of you.”
