23-243 Say Yes to No #5

Today’s Mandala Message: Stop Majoring in the Minors

This week I’m working through Principles #42 and #43 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Just Say No!” and “Say No to the Good so That you Can Say Yes to the Great” respectively. I set my intention today to ponder doing that which has a greater return on my time. Canfield states: “Instead of dedicating yourself—and your time—to mundane, nonproductive, time-stealing activity, imagine how rapidly you would reach your goals and improve your life if you said no to those time-wasting activities and instead focused on the 20% activities that would bring you the most benefit?”

When I catch myself doing mundane things, especially things I detest doing, I realize that I’m probably ignoring something very important that would truly give me more return on my time investment. And that “something” is probably a bit scary or intimidating, that I’d rather stay in my “comfort” zone doing something I already know what to expect than dare try something new . It’s the uncertainty and wondering if it’s worth it to go after something greater that usually keeps me from saying yes to the great.

A good mindfulness practice would be determine what activities would give you the most benefit doing.

So how about you? Do you find yourself doing mundane things rather than doing something that would further your goal(s)? Are you willing to forego the time-wasting activities that hold your back? Do you dare to go after something great?

“Far better is it to dare mighty things,
to win glorious triumphs
even though checkered by failure
than to take rank
with those poor spirits
who neither enjoy much
nor suffer much
because they live
in the grey twilight
that knows neither
victory nor defeat.”
