Today’s Mandala Message: Know What to Look For in a Coach

This week I’m working through Principles #44 and #45 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Find a Wing to Climb Under” and “Hire a Personal Coach” respectively. I set my intention today to ponder what would be helpful for me to know when looking for a coach/mentor/expert. From an article co-written by John Strasser and Ali Garbacz, B.A. on WikiHow entitled How to Find a Life Coach, it states: “Like any profession, life coaches all have their own individual areas of expertise, or “niche” as it’s called in the life coaching world. Depending on how specific your goals are, you might benefit from searching for life coaches that fall into a specific niche and can give you more expert advice and assistance in developing those areas.

For me, I would definitely need someone who’s spiritually open minded, has a strong intuitive sense or ability, and is familiar with the world of metaphysics and the tools of that niche…an appreciation for mandalas would be a bonus.

About 12 years ago I met with a mentor from SCORE (a valuable resource for small businesses) about getting advice on being able to publish my mandala coloring books. He was very knowledgeable business-wise however he lacked the understanding of my products making it difficult for me (us) to make a working connection. In the end I wound up self-publishing 20 of them, only to have it be too much for me to keep up with after about eight years . Now 12 years later I’m still looking for some help with creating more mandala coloring books but with a meditative/journal component. A coach with some publishing background would definitely help.

A good mindfulness practice would be to contemplate your “niche” as a way to determine the type of coach you would want.

So how about you? What do you look for in an expert? How do you know when a coach is a good fit for you? Is there a particular background they would need to have in order to help you?

“The right life coach
can help you reach and exceed
your biggest dreams and goals.
When you consider it in that light,
isn’t working with
one of the best life coaches
the least you can do for yourself?”
