Today’s Mandala Message: It’s All About Sharing

This week I’m working through Principle #46 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Mastermind Your Way to Success”. I set my intention today to ponder what makes a mastermind group a mastermind group. From TheSuccessAlliance.com about Mastermind groups they state: “Mastermind groups are about the members sharing with each other, not about the facilitator coaching individuals in a group setting. According to the Internation Coach Federation, coaches do not give advice. But in a mastermind group, everyone shares advice, ideas and feedback, including the facilitator. The key is to keep the conversation balanced among the members.

I like the idea of a mastermind group being a balanced playing field where all of it’s members contribute to the success of all the other members. As I’ve mentioned in a previous post I belonged to a mastermind group about 15 years ago and I appreciated the perspective of each member. While I didn’t always follow all of the advice offered to me, I was grateful to have options. I agree that a successful group allow for a balanced exchange for asking for help and receiving of help by all members. If only one or two members do all of the asking and/or all of the help, it becomes imbalanced where other members are not made to feel part of the whole.

A good mindfulness practice would be to be mindful of the interactions of those involved in a group setting…is it supportive? balanced? valuable?

So how about you? When considering being a part of a group (mastermind or otherwise), how important is it to you that there be an equal exchange between members? How important is it to you that it be supportive? How important is it to you that everyone is considered a valued member?

“Mastermind groups
succeed or fail
based on everyone’s
two-way involvement:
both in asking for help
and giving help.
If you don’t have balance
in those two areas,
you’re not an asset to the group.”
