Today’s Mandala Message: Commit To Having Heart-to-Heart Talks
This week I’m working through Principle #49 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Have a Heart Talk”. I set my intention today to ponder more ways to have heart-to-heart communications. From Randy Conley on LeadingWithTrust.com about his heart-to-heart talk process he states: “I used a facilitated discussion process [with this group of people] called Heart to Heart Talks, adapted from Layne and Paul Cutright’s book Straight From the Heart. … The process involves three rounds of discussions and the speaker and listener have very specific roles.” While the way Conley presented this process was in a work-related environment, I could see where it could be used with two people or a whole group of people in a variety of scenarios…personal or otherwise.
”The first round involves a series of “Discovery” statements designed to create openness among the participants and to learn more about each others’ perspectives.” He suggests starting your sentence with something like “Something I want you to know about me…”
“The second round comprises “Clearing” statements that allow for the release of fears, anxiety, stress, and to increase trust.” He suggests starting your sentence with something like “Something I’ve been concerned about is…”
“The third round involves “Nurturing” statements that create mental and emotional well-being in the relationship.” He suggests starting your sentence with something like “Something I appreciate about you is…”
I can see where this process would be helpful especially if everyone involved was on the same page about what they wanted to achieve from this process.
A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder if this process would be helpful in your situation.
So how about you? Are you in a situation where more heart-to-heart talks would be beneficial? Would the process described above be something you would consider doing? How would you initiate such a process in your life?
