Today’s Mandala Message: Lead With the Heart
This week I’m working through Principle #49 from Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles” entitled “Have a Heart Talk”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of “when in doubt lead with the heart”. From Tammy Hill’s article about Leading with the Heart she references the book “Crucial Conversations” by Kerry Patterson, Joseph Grenny, Ron McMillan, and Al Switzler and how they “define a “crucial conversation” as one in which opinions vary, stakes are high, and emotions run strong.” She lists these questions that the authors offer as a way to start from the heart:
- “What do I really want for myself?
- What do I really want for others?
- What do I really want for the relationship?
- How would I behave if I really wanted these results?”
I like these questions. I can see where answering them in any given crucial conversation, could help me be clear in how I want to be and what I want to say during that conversation.
A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder your answers to these questions when you’re about to have a ‘crucial conversation’.
So how about you? Do these seem like helpful questions? Would you be willing to ask them of yourself before a ‘crucial conversation’? Do you think they would change your approach to the conversation?

harmony is produced.
When head talks and head listens,
argument is produced.”
