Today’s Mandala Message: Learn to Say No
This week I’m working through Principle #54 “Keep Your Agreements”. I set my intention today to ponder saying _no_ more often. Canfield states: “Give yourself time to think it over before making any new agreements. I write the word _no_ in yellow highlighter on all my calendar pages as a way to remind myself to really consider what else I’ll have to give up if I say yes to something new. It makes me pause and think before I add another commitment to my life.”
This is challenging for me. Not so much to say _no_ to others, I’m getting much better at that. It’s about saying _no_ to myself that’s challenging. I see and get so many great ideas that it’s difficult for me to be neutral enough to consider whether they would be in alignment with my goals or if they would take me away from them.
Canfield’s comment about pausing is a good idea. It occurs to me right now that maybe keeping a journal of “great ideas” that I can refer to whenever I’m ready to try out a new idea. It allows me to say _no_ for now, without totally rejecting it.
A good mindfulness practice would be to consider the value of saying no once in a while.
So how about you? Are you eager to please others and say yes when you really want to say no? Do you feel guilty saying no? What would it take for you to be comfortable with saying no?
“Let today
— Stephanie Lahart
mark a new beginning for you.
Give yourself permission to say NO
without feeling guilty, mean, or selfish.
…
Always remember:
You have a right to say no
without having to explain yourself.
Be at peace with your decisions.”
Blessings,
