Today’s Mandala Message: Treat Yourself as a Class Act
This week I’m working through Principle #55 “Be a Class Act”. I set my intention today to ponder how I treat myself. Canfield states: “[O]ne of the first people you should treat with respect and esteem is yourself. … If you’re sloppy, always late, and don’t care how you conduct yourself, you’re going to be met with people who treat you in a sloppy, always-late, don’t-care manner. … When you establish a higher lever of personal standards, not only do you get better treatment from those around you but suddenly you also begin attracting others with the same elevated standards.”
This is an area where I am lacking of late…especially since the pandemic of 2020. I spend more time at home than ever before, so I let a lot of things slide. But now that I’ve been working towards putting myself out there more, I need to take a closer look at how I present myself and my art, while also maintaining my authenticity. I notice when I’m dealing with others or out in public, I take more care of myself than when I’m home alone.
And I admit, when I do do zoom calls, there’s an excellent chance that while I may be dressed well above the waist, below the waist I’m wearing sweats or PJs bottoms. I realize no one notices and most people probably don’t care but I do feel like it does make a difference internally (mentally, emotionally, and psychologically); that it would be worth the extra effort to show some class for myself even if no one else sees it.
A good mindfulness practice would be to notice the level of standards you apply to yourself vs with others.
So how about you? How do you treat yourself? What personal standards do you currently have for yourself? Where in your life could you raise your levels of personal standards?

that would damage
his self-respect.”
