Today’s Mandala Message: Take Responsibility

This week I’m working through Principle #55 “Be a Class Act”. I set my intention today to ponder how taking responsibility is a component of being a class act. Canfield states: “Class act individuals are accountable when others hide; they tell the truth about their failures; and they transform defeats into progress.

I aim to be accountable and take responsibility for my agreements with others…especially if I’m working with an accountability buddy. Where I’m lacking in being accountable is to myself. About my own projects I find myself saying things like, ‘oh it’s just for me, it doesn’t matter’ or ‘who’s going to know’ or ‘oh well, I’ll try again next time’.

In this segment of the principle, Canfield is focused on us taking responsibility where others are concerned…which I’m usually pretty good at doing. What I need to do is learn how to be more accountable to myself. That when I choose to do a project or task for myself, that I will follow through on it, without excuses, blaming, or procrastination.

A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder who well you take responsibility with others and more importantly to yourself.

So how about you? How are you at being accountable? Do you take your responsibilities seriously? How about to yourself?

“Leaders inspire accountability
through their ability
to accept responsibility
before they place blame.”
