23-320 Change Your Beliefs About Money #5

Today’s Mandala Message: The Power of Releasing

This week I’m working through Principle #56 “Develop a Positive Money Consciousness”. I set my intention today to ponder releasing thoughts that don’t support me. Canfield states: “Whenever you are doing your money affirmations—or any affirmations, for that matter—it is not uncommon to become aware of competing thoughts (objections), such as ‘Who are you kidding? You’re never going to be rich. How many times do I have to tell you? You have to have money to make money’.” As part of this principle he offers a simple releasing technique, a version of the Sedona Method as taught by Hale Dwoskin.

Whenever a negative or limiting belief or feeling comes up, try this releasing process by answering the following questions:

1. What am I feeling right now?
2. Could I welcome and allow it?
3. Could I let it go?
4. Would I let it go? — Would I rather have this feeling or would I rather be free?
5. When?’

Essentially he’s suggesting that we allow ourselves to feel what that negative feeling feels like, to be present it with it. It doesn’t mean we have to like it or condone it, it just means: can you accept the fact that you feel it. From that space, we can then decide whether we want to keep it or release it…and when.

I can see where this technique would be helpful for people. Personally, I have found that doing EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) works better for me. With EFT you acknowledge the feeling, giving it a number from 1-10 (with 10 being the strongest feeling), and then adding a grounding statement such as “even though I believe I’m not worthy of making a lot of money, I accept myself”. Then you make a declarative statement such as “I choose to release this belief that I’m not worthy of making a lot of money, and all of its roots and origins”. Then you start the whole tapping sequence. Afterwards you check to see what number you’re at now. You may have to loop through a few times before getting down 2 or lower.

Once, there then you do the whole process with a positive replacement statement such as “Even though I have trouble believing that I am worthy of making a lot of money, I accept myself”. Chances are your starting number will be low, ie: weak. Then your declarative statement would be something like “I choose to release all the blocks that keep me from believing that I am worthy of making a lot of money.” Next you go through the whole tapping sequence. Loop through as many times as needed until this new belief feels stronger, up to an 8 or higher.

Granted I gave a very general description of EFT and it may even seem a bit complicated. Once you become familiar with the process, you could do the whole thing in less than 10 minutes. I recently used it before going to an audition at our local community theater. I’m easily intimidated by the caliber of actors we have in our town and I usually let it diminish my performance. This time, with doing EFT I allowed myself to have fun at the audition, to just be myself, and learn from what the other actors were doing to help improve my game. Yesterday I found out that I was casted for the part I auditioned. HaZah!

A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder what technique(s) would help you process through your limiting belief(s).

So how about you? Do you have a technique you use for working through your limiting beliefs? What works best for you? If not, would either of the ones suggested here be helpful?

“You leave old habits behind
by starting out with the thought,
‘I release the need
for this in my life’.”
