Today’s Mandala Message: See Yourself Already Having What You Want
This week I’m working through Principle #56 “Develop a Positive Money Consciousness”. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of visualizing already having what I want. Canfield states: “Remember to also include money in your daily visualizations, seeing all your financial goals as already accomplished. … See images of the things you would be able to buy, do, and contribute to if you already met all of your financial goals.” He also recommends using all of your senses as part of our visualization: what smells would you smell? what textures would your feel? what food would you taste? what sounds would you hear?
One other component he wants us to be sure to include is the feeling of appreciation and gratitude for already having these things and/or experiences because it’s this feeling of abundance that attracts more abundance.
Ok, so here’s my 2 cents about all of this. Yes, there’s definitely power in visualizations and everything that he suggests in this segment. I would like to add another component to it: is it in our best interest and for the greater good of all for us to have what we want to have? I can see this from two sides.
1) what if what I want is not in my best interest to have. For instance, what if all I wanted was to be a star pro football player. So I do everything I can to get there and because of circumstances beyond my control it doesn’t seem to be working out … instead it has the potential to lead me to maybe being a star coach or a star manager for a pro football team…but because I’m so singularly focused on the “one” thing, I may not be open to other possibilities.
2) using the same scenario from #1: I wouldn’t have this burning desire if it wasn’t somehow meant to be…, so then yes, go after it…it may be that desire is needed to get me where I truly want to be…the operative word being “truly”.
How do we figure it out? Again continuing with the pro football player scenario… It all depends on the why of it. If the reason I want to be a pro football player is ego-based (for the money, the glory, the fame, the adulation, the “love”), then I may want to reconsider this objective. If the reason I want to be a pro football player is soul-based (for the love of the game, playing football makes my heart sing, I’m an exceptional player), then by all means, follow the dream.
It’s like the girls that say they want to be the first female president (United States). Do they want to be the first female president so that they can claim that they were the first (ego-based)? Or do they want it because they truly want to be president and have amazing ideas on how to govern this country?
Another way to figure out if what you want is in your best interest and for the greater good of all, is to use a pendulum or do energy testing (google it). You could meditate on it as well with the intention of receiving insight and guidance about what direction to take. I could go on and on about this method but it’s beyond the scope of today’s message.
So to sum up, 1) determine the “why” of what you want, 2) determine whether having it is in your best interest & for the highest good of all, and 3) do visualizations as Canfield suggests…you may also benefit by creating a vision board and/or journaling about it. Also check out Taylor Swift’s quote further down this post.
A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder the why of what you want.
So how about you? How are you with visualizations? Can you see yourself as already having what you want? Do you know why you want what you want?
“One thing I’ve tried
— Taylor Swift
to never do
is make wish lists.
I try to have
a very steppingstone mentality
about this whole thing,
where as soon as you make one step
you visualize the next step,
not five steps ahead.
