Today’s Mandala Message: What Does Your Dream Life Cost?
This week I’m working through Principle #57 “You Get What You Focus On”. I set my intention today to ponder what my dream life would cost. Canfield states: “When creating wealth in your life, remember that there is the life you want to live now and the life you want to live in the future. … To get the kind of life you want 1 to 2 years from now, as well as the kind of lifestyle you want when you ‘retire,’ decide exactly how much money you’ll need to live the lifestyle of your dreams.”
He further suggests that for each category of your expenses, “visualize those items or activities in your life, then write down what you would need to spend to get them. … Don’t let your mind tell you that these things are impossible or crazy. For the moment, just do the research and find out exactly what it will cost to fund your dream life.”
I have to admit that I’m lacking in thinking about these things, let alone doing the process he suggests. I also have to admit that managing money or thinking about money triggers stuff that I’d just assume not deal with. This principle, however, is putting money (and my triggers about it) front and center and in my face. It’s time for me to grow up and do the math. So, I’m going to add this activity to my “Decide Guide” (a notebook I started based on yesterday’s MotD where I face things that need me to decide whether or not do them or not; and if I am to do them, establish the deets and the date(s)).
A good mindfulness practice would be to ponder how much it would cost to have your dream life.
So how about you? Are you someone who’s good with managing their money? Have you planned for your future life? If not, are you willing to give Canfield’s exercise a try to start the process?
