Today’s Mandala Message: Get Conscious About Your Money

This week I’m working through Principle #57 “You Get What You Focus On”. I set my intention today to ponder getting conscious about my money. Canfield states: “Most people are unconscious where it comes to their money. … If you want to be financially successful, you have to get conscious. Not only do you have to know precisely where you are but you also need to know exactly where you want to go and what’s required to get there.” He offers some steps to help us become more conscious.

  1. Determine your net worth
  2. Determine what you need to retire
  3. Become aware of what you’re spending
  4. Become financially literate

Off the top of my head I would have to spend a bit of time to come up with the answers to these steps. Part of me doesn’t want to think about it because it triggers my “not enough” issue and yet I know it would be in my best interest to know for sure rather than quess-timate.

This is another of those situations where I need to “grow up” and take responsibility for my finances. Of the four steps, becoming aware of my spending is probably the most important to me right now because, honestly, I don’t know how much money I spend…or save for that matter. So off I go to find an easy money tracker app.

A good mindfulness practice would be to consider how aware are you about your finances.

So how about you? Do you know your net worth? How about your spending, do you know how much you spend each month? What does being financially literate mean to you?

“You must gain control
over your money
or the lack of it
will forever control you.”
