Today’s Mandala Message: Seek Guidance
This week I’m working through Principle #58 “Pay Yourself first” of Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles”. I set my intention today to ponder seeking guidance regarding my finances. Canfield states: “As your money begins to grow, you’ll want to educate yourself further about the best way to invest your money. Eventually, you’ll probably want to find a good financial advisor. The way I found mine was to ask successful friends who they used, then listen for the same name to come up more than once or twice.”
When it comes to managing my finances, I definitely need help. I’m good with paying my bills on time and I became debt-free in 2020, thankfully. Where I need help is with being present with my finances. Too often I spend unconsciously and I don’t have a consistent approach to saving money. I have to make a strong effort to avoid the impulse-buy sections of stores (be they brick & mortar and virtual). I know that I’m easily swayed by “shiny” things (gadgets, online art-related classes, books, you name it). At the heart of this is my need to work through my issues (once and for all) with money that were formulated in my youth.
Three things I’m doing right now that involve a form of seeking guidance. 1) making use of a spending tracker which I start on December 1; 2) reading “The Energy of Money” and doing the exercises, and 3) going to my bank for guidance about my “savings” options. When it comes to “investing”, I know zilch. A good friend of my husband’s is an avid investor and I plan to seek his guidance after the holidays on how best to start investing…even if it’s on a small scale.
A good mindfulness practice would be to consider who around you, that you trust, can offer you financial guidance.
So how about you? Do you ever seek financial guidance from knowledgeable friends? Have you ever sought out a financial advisor? Are you open to receiving financial guidance?
