23-339 Spend Less #3

Today’s Mandala Message: Spend Less, Make More

This week I’m working through Principles #59 and #60: Master the Spending Game and To Spend More, First Make More of Jack Canfield’s “The Success Principles”. We continue with more principles about money and our relationship with it. I set my intention today to ponder the idea of making more money. Canfield states: “The fact is that making more money means you can both invest more and spend more on the things you want …

The first step to making more money is to decide how much more you want to make.

The second step is to ask yourself, ‘What product, service, or additional value can I deliver to generate that money?’ ”

The third step is simply to develop and deliver that product, service, or extra value.

For me, I would want to modify the second step to something like: “What product, service, or additional value that I genuinely care about can I deliver to generate that money?”

The steps are quite simple, the actual time and effort required to do these steps may take a lot of work. I’ve been pondering step two for quite some time now. Where I get stuck and struggle is determining if it’s worth the effort, playing the “what if” game. My garage is full of items that seemed like a good idea at first but didn’t pan out. I should also add…I probably should do step 1 first.

Which brings me to the point of adding the phrase ‘that I genuinely care about’ to step 2. I have learned that if I’m only creating something just for the money, or what “I think” people will buy, it tends to fail. I have also found that I’m more successful and attract a greater following when I create something for the sake of creating it.

As I’m writing this today, I’m realizing that I need to focus on what’s wanting to be created or what do I truly feel like creating? — and then do that. It could also be that nothing is needing to be created at this time. With winter almost upon us, it may be that I need to give myself some space to just “be”…to just “ponder”.

A good mindfulness practice would be to contemplate whether you want to or need to make more money at this time.

So how about you? Do you _need_ to make more money right now? What would your answers be to steps 1 and 2? To help you determine your what: “what is a common complement you get because of how much you enjoy what you do and how well you do it?”

“People are chasing cash,
not happiness.
When you chase money,
you’re going to lose.
You’re just going to.
Even if you get the money,
you’re not going to be happy.”
