23-363 Be Empowered #6

Today’s Mandala Message: Empower Yourself From the Inside Out – 2

This week I’m working through the final principle, Principle #64: Empower Yourself by Empowering Others of Jack Canfield’s book “The Success Principles”. I set my intention today to ponder more ways to empower myself. Continuing with an article by Ilene Berns-Zare entitled “Empower Yourself From the Inside Out” she states: “Life is a process filled with transitions and choices. What if we choose to deliberately learn and practice strategies to help ourselves strengthen our personal empowerment? Learning a new skill typically involves multiple choices that proceed one step at a time.” Knowing that by doing so, it will allow us to empower others with what we’ve gained in the process.

She offers 10 ways to empower yourself. I’ll be sharing them out over a couple of days. Here are the next three:

4. “Practice gratitude. Gratitude, easy to learn and easy to do, can be as simple as saying thank you for noticing what went well today.”

5. “Savor good stuff. Empower yourself with brief intermissions during the day by pausing for moments to notice life’s small pleasures.

6. “Connect with others. Interact with others in positive ways. Even micro-moments of connections can make an empowering difference in your own life and for the person you are connecting with, increasing positive emotions and reducing stress (Fredrickson, 2013).

I do my best on all three of these and yet there’s always room for improvement. While I’m pretty good at practicing gratitude, I’m going to add an evening ritual of noting in my new journal what went well that day. For #5, I set a repeating timer to remind myself to “savor good stuff” that’s around me in the moment. With #6, I know I could reach out more often to others. Since The Covid, I’ve tended to isolate myself. In 2024, I’m making it my quest to spend more time with people (both new and familiar).

A good mindfulness practice would be to find moments in the day to savor good stuff around you.

So how about you? Of the three self-empowerment ways presented, which one resonates with you the most? Do you practice gratitude? Do you give yourself moments throughout the day to savor good stuff?

“There’s more to life
than merely increasing
its speed.”
