”able to face and deal with fear without flinching”
Today’s MotD asks us to explore the idea of being courageous—to face fear without flinching. In thinking about the times in my life where I’ve been courageous, some flinching was involved just before I made the conscious decision to “feel the fear and do it anyway”. Once I took a breath and a step forward and there was no turning back, I was able to “deal with” what came next. Interestingly enough, the fear tended to diminish completely.
A perfect example for me was when I overcame my paralyzing fear of heights. Prior to our trip to Paris years ago, I saw a hypnotherapist for six weeks to help me with my acrophobia. I wanted to be able to enjoy going up the Eiffel Tower.
Long story short, while going up the tower’s three different elevators (the 3rd one allowed you to see out as you went up), I was nervous (but not frozen in terror) and hid behind my husband. When that final elevator’s doors open, the nervousness was instantly gone. I felt so free. I went all around looking out every window…amazed by the views. Then we went up and out on the very top of the tower. It was glorious.
In the past I wouldn’t have even boarded the first elevator. I wouldn’t go on high rides at amusement parks or up the stairs of the Statue of Liberty or any place where height was involved. Interestingly enough, I was ok with flying. Go fig.
Now if I could just tap into some of my newfound courage and apply it to some of my big goals for this year. Hey, I’ve come this far—why let fear stop me now!
How about you? Do you value being courageous?
joyfully,
Maureen

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
