24-012 Accuracy

“the quality of being precise”

Today’s MotD celebrates the value of accuracy…although if you look closely at today’s mandala you’ll notice the design is a little less than precisely drawn. Which brings to mind the beginning days of my mandala art career (25 years ago).

I started by drawing symmetrical mandalas because that’s all I knew at the time. I wanted them to be drawn freehand, without using rulers, because I wanted them to look more organic than computer drawn. So I compromised and created an accurately drawn circular template, divided into 12 precise sections, and with concentric circles that were drawn precisely a “golden ratio” apart.

I placed my drawing paper on top of the template, which let me see the guide lines. This allowed me to create more organically and yet maintain the appearance of symmetry. The precision of the lines was implied. As a matter of fact, when I have people look closely at my designs, they see that my “straight” lines are not perfectly straight…but they are straight enough to look accurately drawn.

How about you? Do you value accuracy?

btw…here’s what it looked like before:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
