24-021 Assertiveness

“the quality of being able to stand up for yourself in a calm, positive way”

I have learned, intellectually, that standing up for myself in a calm, positive way builds confidence, self-respect, and empowerment. I say intellectually because sometimes I forget the “calm, positive way” part. I know…it just takes practice.

Probably the best advice I ever received was a mantra from a holistic chiropractor. He suggested that whenever I’m in a position where I want/need to stand up for myself, quietly, and to myself, say repeated (as many times as is necessary): “I choose power”. By power I knew he meant my inner power, my spirit, my soul.

Whenever I use this mantra I have found that it grounds me, it centers me, it calms me, and it allows me to be fully present and aware in an objective way…and the results always amazed me…in a good way. My challenge is to remember to use it more! Today’s MotD helped me to remember it again. As it turns out, I have a couple of opportunities today to put it into practice … again.

How about you? Is assertiveness a core value for you?

btw…here’s what it looked like before:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
