“the process of finding information, a place, or an object, especially for the first time”
I love the feeling of discovering something new for the first time…be it a place, new-to-me food, and especially new-to-me art technique and/or supply. It makes me want to discover more things…it sparks my creativity.
Probably the biggest discovery I ever made was while browsing around my friend’s new age book store back in 1998. On one of the shelves were three thin coloring books titled “Mandala Coloring Book”, volumes 1-3. Intrigued, I opened one of them and it took my breath away. I had never heard of mandalas before then. My child-like creative self loved the coloring part of it while my software engineering self loved the math-y-ness of them. I bought all three books.
Interestingly enough, when I started to color in them, I quickly became bored with them. They were too plain, too simple. I needed/wanted something more challenging. That’s when I first heard “The Voice” in my head that said…”create your own”. After a trip to Egypt in 1999, I discovered that could create my own mandala designs…and I’ve been creating them ever since…hundreds of them…if not more.
Today’s MotD encourages to engage our child-like enthusiasm to discover new things that take our breath away and make our hearts sing.
How about you? Is discovery a core value for you?
btw…here’s what it looked like before:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
