24-041 Being Reasonable

“based on or using good judgment and therefore fair and practical”

Usually when I hear someone saying “be reasonable”, it’s usually said out of frustration, agitation, and/or aggravation. For today’s MotD, the value of “being reasonable” is meant for us to be grounded in the practical…while reaching for the stars.

For me I know there are areas in my life where I could use a little more of “being reasonable” and other areas where I could do with little (or a lot less) reasonableness.

I was raised in an environment where being practical was the gold standard. If it wasn’t practical, it wasn’t worth doing. For me and my oldest brother we both experienced this when we wanted to pursue careers in the creative arts. We were told things like “how are you going to make a living doing that?” Or “You don’t want to do that” and so on.

Speaking for myself, those words held me back for decades. It’s only been in the last 20+ years that I’ve allowed myself to pursue my art career (I’m now 70).

I get the value of being reasonable, my challenge is coming to a healthy balance between being practical and being creative.

How about you? Is being reasonable a core value for you?

joyfully,

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
