24-046 Respect

“a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements”

While I respect the definition I found for the word respect, with the way this mandala turned out today, I’m sensing its main message is about respecting boundaries…with a dash of “you do you”, “I’ll do me”, and it’s all good.

I realize that when people are hurting inside, they tend to be disingenuous, disrespectful, or downright rude. If we can remember that, it may make it easier for us to not lash out in return…to respect that they are hurting while also respecting ourselves in process.

It saddens me to see the amount of disrespect we have towards one another…especially on social media. We seem to have lost the ability to respect each other while having differences of opinions…”It’s either my way or the highway!” I admit that there’s been many a time where I wanted to reply to someone’s comment or post with some mean retort and then I’d catch myself by asking myself: “Is this helpful or hurtful?”

I’m also feeling compelled to share the importance of respecting ourselves and our personal boundaries. It behooves us to pay attention to the ways in which we disrespect ourselves and our bodies. On another level, it would be good to notice any disrespect we show to our possessions.

It begs the question: How would we behave differently if we truly respected ourselves, other people, our possessions, our communities, our planet?

How about you? Is respect a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with and a side view of the finished version so you can see the shiny parts:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
