”having or showing a deep and clear understanding of something”
For me, insightfulness means the ability to go beneath the surface to gain the truth about what’s really going on in any given moment. So much goes on all around us that distracts us or appears to be the truth, my truth, or reality, that it blinds us to the Real Truth. With mindfulness and being present, we are encouraged to go the extra distance inward to gain the “deep and clear” understanding.
For instance, yesterday we went to meet a rescue greyhound available for adoption. Fabergé came across as a viable option for us and yet I had trouble connecting with her which made it difficult for me to commit to the adoption. I know my husband was ready to adopt but was disappointed of my reticence. I felt bad because I know how much it means to him to have a dog.
Upon deeper examination I realized my issue with her came through as the phrase: “She’s not Simon.” Last month we euthanized our previous greyhound, Simon, of five and half years who was unexpectedly diagnosed with bone cancer. He was a very sweet boy and we thought he’d be with us for at least another five years. Hearing that phrase, though, made me realize that I hadn’t fully grieved Simon’s passing. It also made me realize that until I do, connecting with another dog would be blocked.
When I told my husband of my insight, he better understood my hesitancy and said that he hadn’t fully grieved Simon’s pass either.
How about you? Is insightfulness a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
