Individuality

”the qualities that make one person or thing different from all the others”

When it comes to individuality (being different from all the others) are we different because on an ego level we don’t want to be like anyone else…or are we just being true to ourselves and by doing so, that’s what makes us different.

When it comes to starting or running a business, it’s important to be different from the competition, to have a unique selling point (USP), so that people who are looking for that particular USP, will come to you instead of someone else.

As people, though, authenticity is far more valuable than playing the part. It begs the question: are we doing/being the way we are for external reasons (peer approval, others’ expectations, public image, co-dependency, etc) or for internal reasons (it’s our truth).

I admit I have a strong tendency to want to be different from others…mainly because I see how some other people are and I think to myself: I don’t want to be like that. The problem for me is that often times BECAUSE I’m so reticent of being like others, I have a subconscious tendency to do/be exactly what I am resisting.

Today’s MotD is reminding me to be mindful of my “individuality” — is it coming from a place of ego or from a place of truth.

How about you? Is individuality a core value for you?

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
