Leadership

”the ability of an individual or a group of people to influence and guide followers or members of an organization, society, or team”

I don’t know if it’s because I was the first born, or one of the oldest of my cousins or what, but I tend to find myself in leadership positions…when I don’t really want to be. That may be because as a kid I felt like I was expected or needed to be in charge…so I would do just that…then I would end up being called bossy. (Why is it when we women lead, we’re called bossy???)

I see leadership as a huge responsibility especially when people are relying on you (me) to guide them, to help them, to influence them in a positive way. Ever since I was a kid I felt compelled to be a teacher of some kind. As a grownup I figured out quickly that the education system was not the way. I also figured out that I didn’t want to raise children. None of my brothers and I have children—by choice. We knew what a responsibility it was and we knew we didn’t want to subject our potential kids to any of the dysfunction that we experienced growing up…and that we are still healing from as adults.

While I’m not a teacher in the traditional sense, I hope through these posts (and everything I offer) that I am helping (teaching) people. I know they are helping me because the posts put me in a position where I need to look at myself…to gain more insight into my deeper self, my hidden self, my shadow self…essentially, to learn where I need to do more work.

Since I seem to have an inclination towards leadership, it’s time I allow myself to be one (to own my leadership qualities…my bossy-ness) without fear of being called bossy…to which I would say, “Why yes, yes I am. Thank you very much”.

How about you? Is leadership a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with:

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
