Restraint
”calm and controlled manner”
I can see where some people may interpret “restraint” as a negative value because sometimes the word is used to imply holding something or someone back from something or someone else. Meaning, keeping something from moving forward. Yet, with this definition, it’s more about a state of mind than anything else.
I know that when I get hyped about going after something or doing something, I don’t want anything or anyone to get in my way. In other words, I tend to have an impulsive nature. I can be ant times easily triggered when I don’t get my way. (is it just me???)
A while back we were searching to buy a pre-owned vehicle. We knew the exact make and model we wanted. My husband and a friend of ours were doing most of the researching and shopping around. One day they found a car that sounded perfect and it was right here in town. I got so excited about it that I thought we should buy it right then and there. The guys were hesitant to take any action on it. I became so frustrated with them and their hesitancy..I could feel my inner child going into a tantrum over it. Had it been up to only me I would have bought the car.
Long story short, it turned out that a few weeks later we ended up finding the perfect newer model-year car with all the bells & whistles, a doable price, and only 4k miles on it. That other one had over 40k miles on it.
So it turns out that by having some restraint (being calm and in control) and trusting that it will all work out somehow…that mindset pays off. It was a lesson for me to learn that most, if not all decisions, are best made in a calm and controlled manner.
How about you? Is restraint a core value for you?

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
