Devotion
“love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause”
Going with the idea that the value words for this year are mostly intended for inner self work, then today’s MotD is about being devoted to yourself…your goals, dreams, projects, and so on.
Another way to put it is to say that it’s about being loyal to yourself. Are the actions we take, the thoughts we think, the emotions we feel…are they all part of being loyal to yourself? Do they support us in our authenticity?
It’s taken me years to remove the layer upon layer of my flaming co-dependency. For most of my earlier years, I had “learned” that I had to care what others think about me, to care that other people’s need being met ahead of me, to do and be as others expected me to be. All with the hidden (to me) agenda of thinking that “maybe then I will be good enough and worthy enough to be loved and appreciated”…and to even go so far as to say: I am worthy of being here.
It’s a struggle and thankfully with the work I’ve done on myself thus far, I’m getting better. I need to remind myself often of that quote from Hamlet: “To Thy Own Self Be True”. To remind myself to love myself and to be loyal and enthusiastic to my purpose.
When we are devoted to ourselves, others will then be too.
