Dutifulness
“the ability to carefully fulfill one’s obligations”
Essentially, today’s MotD encourages us to do what we say we’re going to…and with care. Having that added adverb “carefully” elevates the meaning of the word dutifulness. It tells us that not only are we to fulfill our obligations, but that we care about them, that we care about doing them, and that we take care as we’re doing them.
Most of what I do day-to-day, obligation-wise, is self generated…which makes it more difficult for me to fulfill them sometimes because since I created the obligation, I can choose to do it or to not do it. So my challenge becomes honoring obligations to myself and my Self. And actually, it’s my Self that usually gives me the stronger motivation to be dutiful…especially anything falling under the umbrella of “The Mandala Lady.”
For instance, last December I agreed to follow the guidance of my Team of Guides and Angels to create & post a mandala every day, every week, every month, and for the year. I feel obliged to follow through on my agreement and more importantly, I care about it and I care about doing it well. For me it’s almost a no brainer.
Other areas of my life, though, could use more dutifulness, namely my health and my home. I’m working on both as part of my “journey into joy” (see MandalaoftheMonth.com and MandalaoftheWeek.com)
I have found this to be true: when I apply dutifulness I feel a greater sense of joy and fulfillment.
How about you? Is dutifulness a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like before…

joyfully,
Maureen

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
