Ambition
“a strong desire for personal advancement”
Ever since I can remember, I’ve committed myself to learning and growing until my final breath. I sealed this desire while living in Florida for 10 years in the 1990a where I saw so many older people just giving up on learning or trying new things. A common retort from most of them was: “I did all that when I lived up north” or “That’s for all you young people to do” (I was in my 30s at the time) or “I’m too old” (my least favorite).
I love learning new things and just like the robot in the movie “Short Circuit”…I need more input.
My challenge becomes time management. I want to learn so much stuff that I spend more time learning than actually doing anything that I learn. I need to be better at discerning what is worthy of my time to learn…and then putting what I learn into practice.
For instance right now, (I kid you not) this week I’m participating in 7 different classes: wire wrapping, storytelling, mediumship, procreate calligraphy, sketch drawing, art business, and making greeting cards. Next week I start an advanced French class. I know…it’s insane. To be fair, half of these classes are multiple weeks long, some are one-offs, two of them are 5-7 days in a row this week…I admit, that’s a bit much. (thankfully I can watch the replays)
Just now I asked myself why am I taking all these classes and that’s when the “E” word showed up…”when I learn all this stuff, maybe then I’ll be good enough”. Dag nabbit! That’s an eye opener. Well now that I’ve unveiled this clue, I can better determine if taking yet another course is what I need to do or is that I need to put what I’ve already learned into practice.
Could it be that over-learning is a form of procrastination??? hmmmmmmm…interesting.
How about you? Is ambition a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like before…

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
