24-096 Relieved

Relieved

“happy that something unpleasant has not happened or has ended”

When this value word was randomly selected today I thought it was a strange choice…I was even mildly surprised that it was on the list in the first place. For me this triggers the word “worry” as if to answer the question: why are you relieved? The answer usually starts with “I was worried about…”

I found this quote that best sums up the problem with “worry”:

“Worry
does not empty
tomorrow
of its sorrow.
It empties today
of its strength.”

— Corrie Ten Boom

These days whenever I catch myself worrying about something I change it up to set an intention about how I want to feel afterwards. For instance, yesterday I had a dental appointment. I worried about how much it was going to cost. As I headed into the office, I caught myself still worrying, so I immediately set the intention: “as I walk out of this building today, I’ll be happy about how it turned out”. An hour and 15 minutes later, I _was_ happy with how it turned out.

My sense is that today’s MotD is reminding us to set an intention for what we want to feel (relieved), letting go of trying to figure out the how. Being in that space of being happy (relieved) for the result works like a magnet…like attracts like.

Give it a try. I recommend starting with smaller issues, working up to bigger ones. Actually I just remembered something that I’ve been worrying about doing soon and I forgot all about setting an intention for it. Doh…how did I miss that??? Thanks for the reminder 24-096.

How about you? Is being relieved a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with…

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
