Humility
“freedom from pride or arrogance”
I appreciate how this definition uses the phrase “freedom from” versus something like “without” or “having no”. Using the word “freedom” implies (at least to me), that it’s a choice…that we have the freedom to choose to be prideful or arrogant or to NOT be…that is the question (sorry, I couldn’t resist).
Why would we “choose” to be prideful or arrogant? Actually, it’s probably NOT a conscious choice but rather the subconscious’s way of compensating for our feelings of inadequacy. When we come from a place of true confidence and surety, we can consciously recognize that expressing pride or arrogance goes against the grain…it’s pointless because we are confident in who and what we are.
We are encouraged to take a look at where we sit on the confidence scale and our expression of it. For me, I sometimes to go in the other direction where I tend to undervalue myself vs overvalue…which gives the illusion of humility but in reality it’s the devaluation of myself. In either case, at its core…pride and arrogance is a self-esteem issue.
How about you? Is humility a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

joyfully,

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
