Charity

“a deep sense of empathy and understanding towards those who are less fortunate, leading to actions aimed at improving their circumstances.”

Most often when people think of “charity” they think of it in terms of money…that maybe giving money will help or make it go away. Don’t get me wrong, being in a position to help a situation financially is certainly worthwhile and beneficial. But for many of us, that may not be a viable option.

We’re being reminded that charity can be offered in just as meaningful of a way as money, if not more so, specifically the donation of our time, which for some people is a more precious commodity. With donating money we may not see where and how that money is used to help. With our time, we’re physically part of the solution, connecting with the people or circumstances we help, and see some results in that moment.

For me, I’m glad when I’m able to financially support a cause, but it actually feels better when I can give of my time…it feels like I make a bigger impact even if I only help one person.

Part of why I do what I do with the MotDs, MotWs, MotMs, and MotYs is to help uplift people, to help others see things from a different perspective, while also creating art in the process. It’s not that I see the people I help as being “less fortunate” than I am, I see it more as being able to help those who are seeking the insights that I happen to offer and share.

To quote Rumi: “We all just walking each other home.”

How about you? Is charity a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with and a “gold-ish view” …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
