Art
“something that is created with imagination and skill that expresses important ideas or feelings”
First and foremost, art is subjective. And if anything, for me, I would alter this definition to say “something created that expresses something”…we could even go so far as to narrowing it down to “something created”.
Over the years of doing public events with my art, especially if I had my coloring books out for sale, I would meet people who would say they “couldn’t even draw a straight line” or “I couldn’t coloring within the lines”…to which I always replied “Who says you have to???”
I also see people get hung up on how they think their “art” wouldn’t look good…to which I usually say, well then “purposefully make an ugly piece of art…make it as ugly as you can” just to get it out of the way. Even if it does turn out super ugly, it’s still something you created (see end of first paragraph). “Who says it has to look good?…and who decides whether it’s good or not?”
This could turn into a super long post…it’s a hot topic for me. And don’t get me started on being creative (that for a later post). So I’ll do my best to go easy on the length.
The other thing is determining what qualifies as “art’? Most people, myself included, when we think of art we most likely think of some famous painting on display in a museum. And because of that, we forget that art can be expressed in an infinite number of ways, in varying levels of skill and styles: fashion, home decor, car detailing, plated food at a restaurant, cake decorating, landscaping, architecture, window displays, children’s drawings, textiles, event planning, hair styling, theater, mystery novels, movies, music, and so on.
Why would we want to limit ourselves when it comes to “art”…if you’re creating something, you’re creating some form of art…which makes you….what? …..an ……. artist.
How about you? Is art a core value for you?
BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day
Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
