Professionalism

“the skill, good judgment, and polite behavior that is expected from a person who is trained to do a job well”

I learned professionalism from my dad. He always strived to do a top-notch job for his customers. Most people, including himself, would probably call him a carpenter…to me, he was a craftsman and an artisan. It was more than just his skill level, it was also his mindset. I do my best to live up to his standard of professionalism in everything I do.

Side story…After my dad passed in 2020, we used some of the money he left us to add a small half bath and remodel our full bathroom. Having never worked with this contractor before I was a bit nervous about the job he and his crew would do.

That first morning, before they arrived, I asked the spirit of my dad to oversee the job…to make sure that they would meet his high standards. The first person to arrive was the carpenter. He introduced himself as Robert…that was my dad’s first name. I instantly knew we were in good hands. True to my dad, Robert and the whole crew did an excellent job. Thanks, Dad.

How about you? Is professionalism a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …
