Vision

“the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom”

Today’s MotD encourages to see beyond what we see with our physical eyes. Of course, the first question becomes: how do we do that? Well…first we need to be still, grounded, and patient. And how do we do that, pray tell???

What you may think is a lame answer, is really the truth…whatever way works best for you. In general, being in a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed helps. Once settled, you can take a few, deep, conscious breaths…noticing how the air is coming in and going out…nose? chest? belly?

You may find that listening to calming music can help. You could also, one by one, focus on different parts of the body as a way to relax them…starting with your feet and going all the way up to the top of your head. Another approach is to notice and connect with the energy centers of the body…base of spine, lower abdomen, belly, chest, throat, point between the eyebrows, and the top of the head.

Next you’ll want to set your intention about what it is you want to “see”. For this quieting the brain is helpful. You may find it helpful to count down from 10 to 1, repeatedly…or doing some form of patterned breathing (box, 4-7-8, alternate nostrils) … or see yourself walking down a spiral staircase…or repeating a mantra, such as (om, so-ham, hum-sa) with each breath…just to name a few.

Then…be patient and allow the “vision” to come to you. Depending on how you “see” things, you may actually see images or colors or shapes. It may be that you have a knowing or a sense or a feeling instead of an image…here everyone is going to be different. Just play with it; get to know how it works for you.

To start out, this process may seem like it takes too long. Yes, in the beginning it may take you 15-20-30 minutes at a time. Know that the more you practice the quicker it will go…to the point where your “Vision” has the potential to become instantaneous.

Another option is to allow your Vision to come through your dreams…and that’s a whole different topic…for another day…or you can check out this article on Scientific American.

How about you? Is vision a core value for you?

BTW…here’s what it looked like to begin with …

About the 2024 Mandalas of the Day

Each day I will create and post a mandala inspired by one of 366 “value” words chosen randomly. The objective being to discover for myself which ones would best represent my core values…and by doing so, I hope it inspires you to determine your own.
